2015-16 Goal: Help Start 5 New Libraries

Each year, we make an audacious goal which aligns with our mission to raise up readers and train teachers. Our history goes something like this:
Year One: Open our own library with regular hours, open to the public. CHECK!
Year Two: Read 1,000 books to 5,000 kids Meta5around the city. CHECK (and then some)!
Year Three: Help establish 5 more libraries around the city. PENDING.

So, that’s what we’re doing this school year. We estimate that between materials, site visits, consults and trainings, it’ll cost about $1,000 per new library.

Keep Reading, Eton School!

The read-aloud all-stars at Eton School in Washington state are participating in a Read-a-Thon to raise money for our library. Their goal is raise enough money to sponsor 100 story-times and allow us to open our doors on Saturdays for a full year!

We applaud their dedication to literacy and serving others. Happy reading, Eton students!

Eton School students participate in a school-wide Read-a-Thon.

We continue working with young readers struggling to read on level. Emely, pictured here, has blossomed in the last month and is confidently reading aloud anything she can get her hands on. Her grandma told me just the other day that she proudly announced to her whole family that Rebecca at the library taught her to read. While a sweet thought, teaching reading is a team effort where you, our supporters, are important team players. Thank you for your continued dedication!

Instagrammin’ it up!

The Biblioteca received a few iPhones, an iPod and an iPad earlier this month. It is so much easier for us to stay in touch with everyone now! We’ve gotten good at sharing on Instagram, so be sure to follow us: http://www.instagram.com/dwhlibrary
